Berlin Zoo

Berlin Zoo is the first of this kind in Germany and was built in 1844, in the southwest corner of Tiergarten district.

The garden houses 13,700 animals of 1,400 species and is the destination of choice for family weekend in Berlin. Uncrowned star of the zoo and the one that has inspired a lot of pop music soundtracks is the Knut polar bear, which is visited by nearly 3 million of fans annually.

Berlin Zoo has suffered many changes and improvements over the time and, besides the Elephant House (1873) and Antelope House (1872), in 1997 has also appeared the hippo house.
